GLASGOW

The garden for this young family was built in parallel with an architect-designed extension. The clients wanted a space that served many functions: two seating terraces, play spaces for children, a drying green and a storage area for the family bikes.

The angles of the garden reflect the angles of the contemporary metal-clad extension. The wildflower green roof on the bike shed also echoes the extension's sedum roof. The children's trampoline was sunk into a turf mound and can no longer be seen from the house.

The clients requested a woodland-themed garden. The specimen trees will eventually grow up to cover the site with a colourful understory of ferns and perennials beneath.
